Sitting on the terrace of Rifugio Torino, an alpine mountain cabin in The Italian Mont Blanc range, you can’t keep your eyes of the impressive east wall of Mont Blanc as well as the 2000 meter straight down view to Courmayeur in Vallee Aosta.
Rifugio Torino is a beautiful spot. I visit it regularly, either to do ski touring, climbing, photography, just being there or reading a book.
This afternoon, I was there to celebrate the birthday of my daughter. Together we were on a photo assignment in the alps. This alpine mountain cabin can host 160 guests mainly in bunk beds. But they have one luxury room, room 31. Since my daughter’s birthday is 31 August, it was a great opportunity to make her birthday special.
While we were having a good time, observing the Italian National Alpine Cliff and Cave Rescue Corps or Corp Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico (CNSAS), exercising mountain rescuing, a heavy rain shower in front of Monte Emilius crossed the valley, a recipe for interesting early morning photography. We were lucky…..

…The first pictures at the birthday of my daughter were not taken from her, to share via social media and say hello to the world, but from Monte Emilius. This morning I made an image with exactly the same composition as yesterday, but the two images reflect a completely different emotion. At first glance, it even seems to be two different images until you give them a closer look. The morning photo shows all imaginable tonality from deep black, all grays into sparkling white. The day before, I made a a photo late afternoon of Monte Emilius that shows many black tones of a rain shower and transient light with sunbeams that light parts of the mountain range.
It is bizar to see that these two pictures from the same subject, from the same viewpoint, with the same lens, reflect such a different emotion. Without prejudicing anybody, this is a perfect opportunity to buy both photos. These two images with two types of emotion, shot within 17 hours time difference of Mont Emilius are certainly a set of two.

The evening photo and the morning photo of Monte Emilius are part of the mountain photo collection. Each image is a composite of five vertical images which are stiched afterwards in post-production, to let you experience the finest detail. The incentive of Moments in Mountains is to deliver quality prints of impressive mountain photos at home and at the office.
Of course, it ispossible to get access to the other images of this blog. They are on a stock site.
